MTI offers training programs for adults seeking rewarding careers in high-demand trades.

Classes are held in the evenings.

The 15-week programs, which are listed on this page, are FREE for most applicants due to support from the Massachusetts Workforce Skills Cabinet. 

(Minuteman Technical Institute also offers 10-month, tuition-based programs.)

Carpentry (Pre-Apprentice)

Summer Program: This program is for recent high school graduates. June 20, 2024 - August 20, 2024

  • Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM - 1:30 PM
  • This program is NOT the pre-apprenticeship program.

Fall 2024 Pre-Apprenticeship Program: September 10, 2024 - December 18, 2024

  • Tuesday and Thursday, 4:00-9:00 PM
  • Saturday, 7:30 AM - 2:00 PM

Carpentry (Pre-Apprentice) is a 200-hour program that is held in collaboration with the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters (NASRCC) and the North Atlantic States Carpenters Training Fund (NASCTF) with instructors who have many years of field experience. Training takes place in Minuteman’s carpentry shop, the Carpenter’s Training Centers in Dorchester and Millbury, and live construction sites in the area. Participants gain skills in proper use of hand tools and equipment, framing, concrete work, project management, and more. Participants who complete the program receive industry recognized certifications, including OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety, Hot Work, Fall Protection, Scaffold Use, and Mobile Elevated Work Platform. Students who successfully complete the program can be placed immediately into an apprenticeship position. 

CNC Machine Operator

The Computer Numeric Control (CNC) program is held in the advanced manufacturing learning space at Minuteman. Students prepare for entry-level positions in the CNC machining field, which is described by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics as, “the set up and operation of a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments out of metal.” Industry professionals will provide information and insight regarding networking and employment opportunities.

Facilities Management

March 26, 2024 - May 21, 2024

  • Tuesday and Thursday          6:00 - 9:00 PM

The 200-hour facilities management program courses are being taught in collaboration with the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA), an experienced provider of pre-employment facilities management training. Facility managers are responsible for a range of systems within an organization to ensure they are operative effectively and harmoniously. Oftentimes, facility managers oversee an organization’s largest and most valuable assets, such as property, buildings, inventory, and employee productivity. Participants who complete the program receive industry recognized certifications, including OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety, Hot Work, Facility Management Professional, Sustainable Facility Professional, and Certified Facility Professional. 

Plumbing (Tier 1)

Summer Program: This program is for recent high school graduates. June 20, 2024 to August 22, 2024

Anyone planning to take the Massachusetts examination for the Journeyman Plumbing License must first complete five required courses: Plumbing Tiers 1-5. Minuteman Technical Institute is offering the first course, Plumbing Tier I, for free for unemployed and under-employed people thanks to support from the Massachusetts Workforce Skills Cabinet. If you do not qualify, tuition payment plans are available. Veterans' benefits are accepted. 

Robotic Technician

The Robotic Technician program is a 280-hour program that prepares students for entry-level positions as robotics technicians. Once trained, program completers will be equipped to enter the workforce with skills in building, installing, testing, and maintaining robotic equipment or related automated production systems. Students will receive a combination of classroom learning and hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment in Minuteman’s engineering and robotics lab. Students will obtain the following industry recognized credentials: OSHA 10-Hour Safety, Hot Work, and others. 

Welding

Summer Program: This program is for recent high school graduates. It is a 200 hour program and you will receive your OSHA 10 and Hotwork certifications. June 20, 2024 - August 22, 2024

Welding is a 270-hour program in which students obtain hands-on experience in Minuteman’s welding shop through a curriculum that provides practical skills in welding theory and welding practice. Students are trained in many forms of welding using up-to-date equipment, including but not limited to oxyacetylene cutting and welding, resistance welding, soldering, arc gouging and cutting, gas arc, shielded metal arc welding, and more. Students will obtain the following certifications: OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety, Hot Work, American Welding Society d1.1, and Mass. Highway D1.5 (pending). Hours and experience can be used toward attaining an apprenticeship and Ironworker Journeyman’s License following the completion of the program.
